TK MAXX OPENS IN HOLLAND
TJX is the largest off-price retailer in the United States with worldwide sales turnover of nearly $30 billion for fiscal year 2015. Aside from its core USA business (76% of sales), the company operates stores in Canada (10% of sales) and Europe (14% of sales).
TJX CORPORATION
In the U.S. all three of its nameplates are well-known to shoppers… Marshalls, TJ Maxx and HomeGoods, while in Canada, its stores go by the names of Marshalls, Winners and HomeSense.
TK MAXX IN EUROPE
TJX first entered the European market in 1994, opening stores in the UK and Ireland. The European stores operate under the division TJX Europe. The majority of sales (92%) generated in the TJX Europe division are via the TK Maxx store concept but HomeSense has grown since it was first introduced in the UK in 2008. As of February 2015, there were 407 TK Maxx and 33 HomeSense stores operating in four European countries (UK, Ireland, Germany and Poland).
During Spring 2015, TJX Europe added a 5th country opening stores in Austria. More recently (November 2015), the Netherlands became the company’s 6th EU country to operate in when it opened stores in Rotterdam and Eindhoven.
The launch of TKMaxx.com in 2009 as an e-commerce platform within the UK region has been very successful, and with e-commerce mentioned by CEO, Carol Meyrowitz as a specific growth area, one can assume each national TK Maxx website (TKMaxx.ie, TKMaxx.de, TKMaxx.pl, TKMaxxOnline.at and TKMaxx.nl) will eventually become interactive with customers being able to purchase items rather than just providing company information.
