El Corte Ingles

El Corte Ingles is the largest department store chain in Spain, founded by Ramon Areces in 1940. The first store was opened in Madrid and it is where the company is still headquartered. In 2013, the El Corte Ingles department stores, as a division of the El Corte Ingles Group, generated sales revenue of €8.4 billion, which accounted for 59% of total company sales.

El Corte Ingles currently operates just under 100 stores streching across the country from Santiago de Compostela in the northwest on the Atlantic Ocean, to Alicante in the southeast on the Mediterranean Sea. This includes 19 stores in the Madrid area, 9 in the Barcelona area, 5 in the Valencia area and 2 on the island of Palma de Mallorca.

The in-store brand assortment at El Corte Ingles includes such designer luxury names as Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Armani, Dolce & Gabanna and Burberry. The Bridge assortment includes brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Desigual, Calvin Klein, Polo Ralph Lauren and Lacoste.

El Corte Ingles is one of the few department store chains based in a non-English speaking country which offers online shopping in English and international delivery. Their .eu website, which offers a culled down merchandise assortment, services customers living in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France and Ireland.
