FALL 2019 FOOTWEAR TRENDS
This season’s footwear trends include animal/exotic prints, western, biker, slouch and lace-up boots (laarzen), platforms and chunky sneakers. All are available in stores here in the Netherlands, including Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht…
ANIMAL & EXOTIC PRINTS
Female expat shoppers in Holland with an eye toward fashion will be happy to know their previously purchased animal print shoes do not have to be stores away in the closet just yet. Leopard, zebra and cheetah are still key for Fall 2019. In fact, the trend is expanding and now includes additional exotic prints such as snake, python, croc and lizard. See the variety offered at Nelson Shoes.
LACE-UP BOOTS
Lace-up boots, including tailored and combat styles, are also an expanding trend happening in women’s footwear. The look came back into fashion with the resurgence of Dr Marten and is now so mainstream that one can find lace-up boots included in this Fall’s footwear offering of brands ranging from Steve Madden and Sacha to Zadig & Voltaire and Sergio Rossi. See the lace-up boot assortment at Wehkamp.
WESTERN BOOTS
The single hottest footwear trend of the Fall 2019 season is western boots and includes shooties, booties and tall shaft boots. They are offered in a wide range of materials including smooth leather, greasy nubuck, brushed suede, patent and animal prints. For a clean, fresh take, opt for snake or lizard print such as those available from Manfield, Gabor and Sendra.
BIKER BOOTS
The biker boot trend continues this season – low and mid height shafts, smooth rubber and lug outsoles, harness and asymmetric straps, single and multiple buckles. Check out the offering from Dutch brands like Bronx, Nubikk and (the more commercially-priced) PS Poelman.
SLOUCH BOOTS
The flexible-shaft slouch boot is another fashion trend this Fall, which is good news for all the cycling ladies out there. The softer the shaft, the better for operating those pedals. You’ll find these offered in both casual and dress styles, on a variety of heel heights and made from soft leather, suede and synthetic materials.
CHUNKY SNEAKERS
The chunky sneaker (those ugly Dad shoes) trend is another ongoing trend that is not letting up this season. Even traditional brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Michael Kors have versions of this fashion athletic silhouette in their Fall footwear collection. Check out the new chunky sneaker looks available at Nelson Shoes and Wehkamp.
PLATFORM SNEAKERS
Sport shoes with platform outsoles (plateauzolen) are trending this season with brands such as Vans, Converse, Guess, Buffalo, Calvin Klein and Replay delivering new elevated looks. These include classic court, high-top basketball and retro jogger silhouettes in leather, suede, animal and other exotic prints.
