GARDEN FURNITURE SHOPPING
Dutch people love to spend as much time in the sun as possible, so expats in the Netherlands will have no trouble finding stores that sell patio and garden furniture (tuinmeubelen).
Despite the Netherlands being one of the world’s most densely populated countries, nearly all Dutch homes (houses and apartments) have an outdoor space. This might be a front garden, back yard, rooftop deck, terrace or balcony. It may seem disingenuous for Holland which has more than its fair share of dark, gloomy days. But the Dutch are optimistic people with a strong appreciation for the sun. Architects obviously took this into consideration when designing residential living spaces in the Netherlands.
This provides expats in Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and elsewhere in Holland with two benefits. First they should have no problem finding a place to live that includes at least some exterior space. Second, they have lots of places to shop for garden furniture to maximize the use of that space.
