Streisand’s ‘Partners’ Debuts Atop Billboard Chart

Barbra Streisand has added one more feather to her cap, and let's face it, at this point she has the equivalent of a full-length headdress when it comes to achievements. With the chart-topping debut of her latest set, Partners, Streisand achieves what no other musician (soloist or group) ever has, a number one album in 6 consecutive decades.

It's more icing on the cake then anything since she already had notched the record for being the only artist to have number one albums in 5 consectutive decades. That was achieved when her 2009 CD Love Is The Answer debuted in the top position in September of that year (5 years ago this month).

With 196,000 units moved, it was also Streisand's highest selling week in more than 15 years, since her album Higher Ground pushed 402,000 units during Christmas week 1997.

Partners includes 12 newly recorded duets with men all younger than her in age. The collection offers mainly reinterpretations of songs she has recorded, and many are some of her biggest hits. Her male partners range in age from 33 year-old youngster Josh Groban to 65 year-old veteran Billy Joel (if you do not count the posthumous duet she performs with Elvis Presley who would be 79 if he were alive today). The strong male lineup added plenty commercial appeal to the CD since each has his own following. All the Partners have topped at least one music chart over the years with several achieving it just within the past 18 months; Blake Shelton with Based on a True Story (March 2013), Michael Buble with To Be Loved (April 2013), Josh Groban with  All That Echoes (Feb 2013) and John Legend with All of Me (Feb 2014).

The set has also done well in the few markets where first week sales have been tallied. In both the UK and the Netherlands, Partners debuted in the runner-up position, while in Ireland and Germany it started with the Top 10 (#6 and #9, respectively).

According to the RIAA, Barbra Streisand is the best selling female recording artist of all time. She also holds the record for the most #1 albums of any female singer (10), the most Top 10 albums (34) and the most combined Gold/Platinum/Multi-Platinum Albums (94).
